YORUYA
A boutique culinary ryokan in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter of Okayama Prefecture. Renovated from a 110-year-old traditional building, YORUYA features 13 guest rooms, a dining area, and a wine bar open to the local community.
Story
The traditional building that YORUYA has inherited was originally constructed over 110 years ago, as a secondary residence for a Meiji era kimono merchant. From the 1980s, it operated as a beloved local ryokan for more than 30 years before eventually closing its doors. In recent years, the building had remained unused. Seeking to revitalize this valuable cultural asset—a designated Traditional Building in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter—Kiraku collaborated with investor ALL-JAPAN Kanko Rikkoku Fund, a tourism-oriented fund for which Regional Revitalization Solution, Inc. serves as general partner. The project marked Kiraku’s second collaboration with the fund, following Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki St.

YORUYA is set within a renovated and expanded traditional building over 110 years old, featuring 13 guest rooms, a dining area, and a wine bar. Through a refined dining and stay experience, YORUYA offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culinary culture and historical heritage of Kurashiki and its surrounding region.
YORUYA’s design was inspired by the concept of “Ka no Za (seat by the hearth)”—signifying a sense of warmth and connection centered around the hearth, historically a gathering place for families and communities. The space fosters deeper connections with the land and its people, blending tradition with modernity. In the renovation and expansion process, the original building, along with its beams and pillars, have been preserved and built in harmony with newly built structures. The alleyway within Yoruya also recreates the concept of “hiyasai”—a word to express the narrow alleys unique to the Bikan Historical Quarter.
