Kiraku Inherits Kodama Distillery’s Shochu Operations in Miyazaki
Kiraku, Inc. has established Kodama Distillery Co., Ltd., a new wholly owned subsidiary, and has acquired the shochu production business of Kodama Distillery LLC in Obi (Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture) through a company split. Following its investment in suginomori brewery in Nagano, this marks Kiraku’s second sake and shochu initiative in Japan.

Located in the castle town of Obi, known for its beautifully preserved Edo-period townscape, this historic shochu distillery has a legacy spanning over 200 years. Established in May 2025 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kiraku, Kodama Distillery Co., Ltd. assumed the shochu operations of Kodama Distillery LLC through a company split. With Kiraku’s creative and operational support, the distillery aims to address challenges in the domestic market while helping cultivate and expand the global shochu market—working toward the creation of a renewed and enduring shochu culture.
